[ey-vis]
Choreographed by Emma Valeria Girandola, [ey-vis] premiered in Conwell Theatre at Temple University in December 2017. From there, [ey-vis] was selected to be presented at the American College Dance Association regionals conference in West Chester, PA (March 2018). At the conference, a panel of selected judges chose [ey-vis], amongst 30 other works, to be performed at ACDA’s National conference at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC (June 2018). The seemingly contagious love and support that [ey-vis] received, inspired Emma to launch Valerius Productions and continue presenting [ey-vis] throughout the tristate area.
The following year, Jessica Chen (director and founder of JCHEN Project in New York City) selected [ey-vis] as a finalist in their C3 Core Choreography Competition. As a result, [ey-vis] was presented at the C3 Core Choreography Competition Finalist Showcase at The Alvin Ailey Studios in Manhattan, New York (June 2019).
With thousands of feathers, an amazing cast, and an unforgettable story, [ey-vis] leaves audiences with a stunning image and an awestruck moment. It continues to stand as Emma’s first and favorite work that will continue to touch the hearts of so many others.
Inspired by the Greek mythological story of Icarus, [ey-vis] explores his story through a feminine lens. The choreography is derived from stereotypical feminine movement qualities such as delicacy, subtly, and intricacy in order to display an overwhelming image of power. This juxtaposition challenges the weakness associated with femininity and illuminates the neglected strength of each individual's femininity.
